This reading group will choose works by Australian Indigenous authors for discussion. Both fiction and non-fiction works will be considered by the group. The purpose of the group is to provide a structured space for readers to consider works by First Nations’ writers and to explore their concerns and interests as well as discussing the works more broadly and sharing responses to them.
REQUIREMENTS: Preparedness to source and read the books which the group chooses for discussion; preparedness to take turns in leading discussion.
TUTOR: Sue has taught in secondary schools, TAFE colleges and Monash University, where she has also held research positions in the Department of History and the Centre for Indigenous Studies. She is the author of a number of articles and book chapters as well as two books: ‘Black and White Together: FCAATSI, the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, 1958-1973’ , UQP, 2005, and ‘A White Hot Flame: Mary Montgomerie Bennett, Author, Educator, Activist for Indigenous Justice’, Monash University Publishing, 2018. She is also the author of the website ‘Collaborating for Indigenous Rights’ which is hosted by the National Museum of Australia
