Other information

Shakespeare just keeps on keeping on. New stage productions every year, and with the onset of COVID, many of these are now available to download. And there are Shakespeare films and mini-series, ranging from Hollywood blockbuster versions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the BBC’s recent Hollow Crown/Wars of the Roses series.

Each week we’ll watch a recorded stage performance of a play, with a corresponding film adaptation the following week. In discussion we’ll compare and contrast the two. If Shakespeare had lived in our century, would he have made films instead of plays? What can a film version do that a stage version cannot, and vice versa? And is one “better” than the other?

TUTOR: Helen Vorrath, an experienced teacher and tutor in her professional field (computers and IT), is also a Shakespeare devotee with an English degree.
