Other information

There are seven times as many roles for men as there are for women in Shakespeare’s plays. Of the total 981 characters, 826 are men while only 155 are women. But who can forget Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Rosalind, Cordelia, Portia, Viola, Juliet, Queen Margaret?
This course will look at the way Shakespeare portrays women: in the comedies the rebel daughters and the women operating alone in a man’s world, in the tragedies and history plays the women in power, or seeking power through sons and husbands. The victims, the winners, the low life, the wits, the wives and mothers, sisters and daughters and best friends. This is a repeat of the course run in 2021. Previous year’s course members are welcome back if they’d like a refresh, as are new members.

TUTOR: Helen is an experienced teacher and tutor in her professional field (computers and IT), is also a Shakespeare devotee with an English degree.

This is a repeat of a course that Helen ran last year.
