Other information

Pickleball is the fastest growing recreation/sport in Australia. A cross between tennis, badminton and squash, played with a ‘paddle’ (a sort of large table tennis bat), and a plastic pickleball, it suits all ages and all levels of fitness. Games are usually played with two per side, any combination of m/f and can last between 10 and 20 minutes depending on skill levels. You can ‘sit out’ whenever you want. Warning – it is terribly addictive.

This course is open both to those who know and play the game and to beginners (tuition will be available). We will be playing on purpose-built inside courts in Southbank. There is plenty of metered parking nearby at approx. $1 per hour.

NOTE: The first step will be a once-off introductory session on 29 January to explain the game, to advise on equipment required and to formulate the structure of the course. Regular games will start on 5 February. The course will be a ‘pay as we go’ activity, costing members about $5 or $10 dollars to play each week. Also, the equipment required will add to the set-up cost.

TUTOR: Barry and his wife Rhonda have been playing pickleball for about 18 months, after having seen it played in Canada. He has developed and tutored sessions for U3A in Emerald and is a Pickleball ‘tragic’. He has seen folk who have never played a ball game become useful PBP (pickleball players); tennis and table tennis players become addicted; and all players just enjoying themselves and having healthy exercise and fun. This a great activity and a wonderful social outing..

Paper Enrolment Form: before bookings open for First Semester

  • Obtain a paper Enrolment Form either from the Office or by printing an online copy available here.
  • Complete the paper Enrolment Form and submit it to the Office.

The start date for acceptance of paper Enrolment Forms for first semester is published on the U3APP website and in the e-Bulletin. Enrolment Forms received before this date are treated as though they had been received on the start date (ie there is no advantage to be gained by submitting early). On the start date and thereafter, paper Enrolment Forms are numbered in order of receipt.  Paper Enrolment forms are processed by U3APP volunteers on the same day as on-line bookings.

If your enrolment is successful, you will receive a confirmation email.  Please check your Junk/Spam folders as these automatically-generated emails often finish up there.

If your enrolment is unsuccessful,  you will receive an email telling you that you have been waitlisted.
