An exploration of some of the many facets of the evolving technology of artificial intelligence (AI) including its philosophical, technical and social dimensions. Format of classes is lecture/discussion, and participants will be encouraged to suggest topics of interest.
Topics may include: ethical issues arising from eg facial recognition systems and text-based systems (ChatGPT, Bard, etc); sentient machines; ‘emotional’ AI; art, creativity and authorship; applications of AI in eg automated vehicles; robotics; bioengineering, war technologies etc.
TUTOR: Maurita’s background is in academic teaching and research in philosophy, with a special interest in philosophies of mind, brain and consciousness. This interest encompasses aspects of artificial intelligence which she researched during its early developments in the 1980s and 1990s She has tutored in philosophy subjects at U3APP over a number of years.
