Learn and practise the brain-teasing fun of solving cryptic crosswords: the basic forms of cryptic clues, the tricks used by the compilers and tricks for solvers to use. Opportunities to solve puzzles together and to practise at home. The course is designed for absolute beginners; it could suit also members with very limited experience with cryptic puzzles. Members with moderate experience could join at any time after the beginning of term 2, when we will have small groups solving puzzles together in breakout rooms.
REQUIREMENTS: Note paper, pen/pencil, preferably the ability to print electronic documents. Beginners should make sure that they don’t miss any of the first three classes.
TUTOR: Colin is a retired engineer with a love of words and language. He lives with several books of cryptic puzzles at his bedside and completes David Astle’s puzzle in the Friday Age every week.
