Other information

A series “Origins of Life” was presented in 2018. This basically looked at the early earth and the many ways life could have begun and prospered over time. The video presenter (Professor Robert Hazen) was a very accomplished mineralogist whose interests in other areas led to boundless knowledge and experimental capacity in such areas as biochemistry, chemistry and astronomy. This more recent series of videos from Robert Hazen stretches from the big bang, through the early development of the universe to the formation of the solar system and the modern earth. On this trip you will go through major geological and biological events, great catastrophes and be allured by the enthusiasm and knowledge of the presenter.

REQUIREMENTS: Curiosity and enthusiasm

TUTOR: David is a PhD graduate and research scientist for many years. Major interests include chemistry, plant biochemistry and mass
spectrometry. Last position was Senior Research Scientist with Defence Science Technology Organisation at Fisherman’s Bend. He says: I have always been interested and fascinated by science, developed an early interest in chemistry (aged 13) and managed to set up a lab at the end of the garage – mainly used to synthesise explosive things. My working life involved mainly biochemistry and mass spectrometry but I was always interested in astronomy, geology and plant pathology”.
