In this subject we explore philosophical perspectives from Aristotle to Singer on the status of non-human animals, and how these stand up to findings from recent research into animal cognition, emotion, and communication. Topics include:
- Are animals capable of rational action?
- Are they capable of empathy?
- How do animals communicate?
- The moral status of animals
REQUIREMENTS: Access to email as Internet resources are recommended in preparation for each class.
