Other information
The course will focus each week on a place that has been inscribed on the World Heritage List or a set of World Heritage sites within a particular country. Reminiscences about visits to the sites will be welcome as well as slides taken during visits. Along the way there will be some discussion of problems both the chosen sites and the UNESCO World Heritage program are experiencing. The tutor will present some sites but class members will be invited to present on some of the sites they have visited if they so wish.
TUTOR: Alongside his work at various Melbourne universities, William (Bill) acted as a consultant to UNESCO’s Paris-based World Heritage Centre and for ICOMOS, also in Paris, from 1986 to 2022. This has involved helping countries to nominate sites for inscription, examining nominations and monitoring inscribed sites that are experiencing problems. These countries have mostly been in Asia, but he has also done heritage work in Europe, Australia and the Pacific.
From 31 Jan to 5 Sept except 25 April, 16 May
