Other information
Using Great Course DVD’s as our information source, we will investigate the Middle Ages not only in Europe (the usual target) but also in Asia, North America, Scandinavia, the Middle East and other geographic centres . Our guide will be Dr Joyce Salisbury who also presented lectures on the History of Spain. The course comprises 24 lectures (2 lectures per class) for a total of 12 weeks.
“The Middle Ages encompasses the period between the Roman Empire and the Renaissance in Europe, from about the year 400 to about 1400. It is also called the medieval period. The Middle Ages is roughly divided into three periods: the Early Middle Ages from about 400 to 1000; the High Middle Ages, from about 1000 to about 1300; and the decline of the Middle Ages, from 1300 to 1450. This course will adhere roughly to these divisions that have been traditional in the history of Europe. But the story is much more complicated and interesting than a simple European tale. Europe was never isolated; it was always connected to Asia and Africa in ties of mutual influence.”
REQUIREMENT: Curiosity about history around the world.
