Other information

This course continues to look at theatre itself and what goes on to make it happen! This does include Theatre visits. These are optional but encouraged as they work alongside the course content.

Students will be looking at the process and execution of a production team required to mount a performance. This includes the production manager, director, actors, set designer, costume designer, lighting and sound designers, stage manager, and other required creatives. Some play reading will occur within class time. Theatre visits will be arranged by the tutor with plenty of notice beforehand. Students will be required to book and pay for their own ticket/s. Live plays will be selected by the tutor for specific examples, but others will be along with students.

Arrangements regarding dinner beforehand or coffee afterwards will be arranged for each event in class. Times for shows will vary and there will be a mix of types of theatre along with professional to community examples.

REQUIREMENTS: A laptop or tablet may be needed at times, and pen and paper if you wish to take notes. Power-points are constantly provided by Lisa on various topics.

TUTOR: Lisa is/was a professional Theatre Designer. Having started her venture ‘on the boards’ in amateur theatre, she trained as a secondary teacher majoring in Theatre, Theatre Design and English, to graduate in Theatre Design at NIDA in Sydney. She then began designing shows for major companies in Melbourne and Sydney including a long stint with Melbourne Theatre Company designing and organising the touring of shows throughout Australia. Later she workshopped at Melbourne University, taught design at The Malthouse, for Drama Victoria and many and varied teaching institutions throughout Victoria. Lisa was also an actor in a successful corporate theatre group which she remembers with great fondness. Her ‘final’ foray was as Head of Performing Arts and consequently Head of Drama at Marcellin College for 11 years in which she realised her love for boys. Before venturing into retirement, she completed a Masters in International Education. She is now designing again with joy in both professional and amateur circles, and has just done a children’s show for 5 to 8 year olds!

No class on 3 November
