Are climate change and global warming inevitable? Can we feed a world population of ten billion people? Imagine a lush green planet with healthy plants, animals and people, providing plenty of nutritious food and quality drinking water for everyone. Does it sound too good to be true? How we farm and the food we choose to eat significantly impacts our health. In the same way, farming affects the planet’s health, as evidenced by climate change. We must turn our attention away from carbon dioxide and methane and focus instead on the global mismanagement of farmland. What we eat and how we grow it is causing climate change. We must teach farmers worldwide how to adopt regenerative farming practices to heal the planet and ourselves.
Dr Beaney’s talk will appeal to anyone with an interest in personal and planetary health.
It will be followed by a Q and A session.
In 2014, having retired after forty years as a GP and weighing 108 kilos, John Beaney commenced an in-depth study of nutrition, changed his diet, lost 24 kilos, and commenced sharing with other U3A members his understanding of this ever-evolving and fascinating subject.
