Canasta is a card game which is rummy-like, but it does include some bold differences which set it apart from any other card-game variation. While it is fun and addictive, Canasta can be a tricky game to get your head around at first, so concentration is key. Bring your previous knowledge to join in this friendly game. Some general assistance can be provided.
Ideally this course will be for experienced canasta players, but the first four weeks may be used to refresh people’s memories or teach those interested in playing. There are a number of ways this game is played, but this game will be played using rules as set by the coordinator.
The game is played using two decks, including the jokers, which play a special part in the game. The aim of Canasta is simple: beat your opponent by scoring more points. Points are accumulated by creating ‘canastas’. A ‘canasta’ is a set which contains seven cards of the same type including wild cards.
TUTOR: Lynn is an experienced canasta player and will act as mentor/helper.
