Tutor/Facilitator Barry ONeill
Date: on/from Wed 21 Feb 2024 to end year
Class time: 1:00-3:00
Mary Kehoe Centre, Hall
The course is aimed at bringing together a group of enthusiastic, musically oriented people who will play and sing together simply to enjoy the moment
It is not intended to teach anything, and an understanding of music per se is not necessary. However, group members should be reasonably competent with their instruments (including voice) so that they are able to contribute with or without music spontaneously. Or, in other words, “to Jam”. (If they like the piece!)
We will play/practice/perform pieces that are suggested by group members – songs/instrumentals that have meaning in their lives; or that they would like to perform but have not yet had the opportunity to do so; or pieces that they have written but have not heard performed; or pieces that they think would be fun to perform in a group.
This is an experimental gathering, and for such a group to harmonise in the way it is intended, it is necessary to pre-determine the composition of the group. So, anyone (meeting the above requirements) can enrol for the course, but places will be limited as follows.
1 Keyboard 2 Non instrumental Vocals
2 ‘Lower ‘ strings – guitar/Uke/banjo/mandolin etc
2 ‘Upper’ strings – violin/fiddle/viola/bass/ cello etc
3 Wind – flute/clarinet/recorder/ trumpet/ saxophone etc
1 Effects – shakers, sticks, tambourine etc 1 Tympany – bongos, drums,etc
1 Arranger/composer/adviser/technician/helper etc 1 Misc
NOTE: All interested members should enrol and will be waitlisted. They should then contact the tutor by email – email@example.com informing about their instrument preference and their competence, experience and interest. The tutor will subsequently advise who has been formally enrolled.
REQUIREMENT: Own instrument
TUTOR: Barry says: “I bought my first guitar after Elvis bought his. Whilst my musical skills have never reached great heights, my love of music and playing for pleasure has continued to grow. I have enjoyed countless hours of just playing and singing along with many like-minded folk. I would like more music lovers to enjoy the same experience, taking it seriously. but above all, having fun”.
