How should we live? We shall consider nine important and influential views in Western philosophy:
- Plato: Order in the Soul
- Aristotle: Virtue as a Mean
- Epicurus: Against Epicures
- Bentham: The Felicific Calculus
- Mill: Higher and Lower Pleasures
- Kant: The Categorical Imperative
- Nietzsche: Beyond Good and Evil
- Sartre: Freedom and Anguish
- Murdoch: Moral Attention
Excerpts will be provided, and a number of key points identified and critically discussed.
TUTOR: Douglas has Philosophy degrees from Monash University (MA) and the University of St Andrews, Scotland (PhD). He taught philosophy at Melbourne State College and then for many years at the University of Melbourne. He has been joyfully involved at U3APP since 2018.
