Other information
| Ever wondered what it’s like to stand on a remote Arctic island, or wander through the wild landscapes of Namibia or Costa Rica? This class, led by Libby Smith, takes you beyond the usual travel spots to places most of us only dream about. Each week, you’ll “visit” somewhere new—from Northern Siberia to Australia’s far-flung islands—through stories and photos. It’s a chance to see the world differently, without the long flight. Sessions will include background information (history, geography and other interesting facts) on the places visited, which will include Northern Siberia/Wrangel Island, Costa Rica, South Georgia, Namibia, Ladakh, Australia’s remote islands (Christmas & Macquarie), Eastern Indonesia and Romania. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, if they are familiar with the region being discussed. TUTOR: Libby’s passion is the natural world and she has been involved over a long period in environmental advocacy and protection. Her travels have often focused on exploring the world’s wilderness areas; some trips have involved long-distance hiking. She has travelled to many far-flung places as well as extensively in Australia and Europe. She has a B.Comm, Grad Dip Mkting and a B.Letters (Philosophy).. |
No classes on 2nd Wednesday of each month
