Other information

1 in 7 people over the age of 50 are diagnosed with Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of blindness in Australia. The Macular Disease Foundation Australia can show you how to try and preserve your sight through some very simple techniques and lifestyle changes.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about AMD, its symptoms, risk factors and treatment options and management. The main focus of our presentation is to encourage positive lifestyle changes.

Our education seminars usually run for approximately 25 mins with an opportunity for questions at the end. We provide free information kits with a wealth of resources for every attendee as well as a home monitoring tool.

Sabine Ostrowski is the National Manager of Healthcare Relations at Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA). She is a highly experience optometrist and a graduate of the University of Melbourne. Driven by a strong interest and passion for public health, Sabine moved from a career in clinical practice to the not-for-profit sector to drive and improve eye health education.

A dedicated and evidence-based clinician and educator, Sabine is excited by the expanding role that MDFA is pursuing into health professional education.

Sabine has been invited to join the Vision 2020 Australia Prevention and Early Intervention Committee and then the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee because of her clinical knowledge, public health interests and leadership in preventative eye health.

The AMD presentation itself will run for approx. 20 – 30 minutes, there will then be time for questions from the audience. We also send out a survey link for members to rate our session and receive our free AMD information pack and recipe book.
