Other information
In this course, a wide variety of poems from all ages and cultures, from ancient times until today, will be read together and discussed.
Some background material about the poet and genre will be included but for the most part the poems will be allowed to speak for themselves.
As the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas said, in Notes On The Art Of Poetry
“I could never have dreamt that there were such goings-on
in the world between the covers of books,
such sandstorms and ice blasts of words,
such staggering peace, such enormous laughter,
such and so many blinding bright lights,
splashing all over the pages
in a million bits and pieces
all of which were words, words, words,
and each of which were alive forever
in its own delight and glory and oddity and light.
TUTOR: Nancy is a published and prize-winning poet herself, passionate about poetry and committed to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. She says: “I have loved teaching a similar class at the Launceston School for Seniors for the past several years. My partner and I have just moved back to Port Melbourne and I’d love to continue sharing this wonderful subject here”.
