Yin yoga is a slow and meditative practice that targets the deep connective tissues in the body – the fascia, ligaments and joints – and provides space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Poses are usually seated or reclined and held for a longer period of time than in other types of yoga. Yin yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies and Taoist principles which believe there are pathways of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies. By stretching and deepening into poses, we’re opening up any blockages and releasing that energy to flow freely.
REQUIREMENTS: Exercise/yoga mat; two Yoga blocks; bolster or firm cushion/pillow; blanket.
TUTOR: Kim has been a dedicated yoga student for 8 years and has completed vinyasa and yin yoga teacher training in order to share her love of this time-tested practice with others. Beyond the endless physical benefits of yoga, Kim believes that yoga helps us be our best selves off the mat too, developing a calmer mind and a kinder heart.
