Other information

A fun and challenging course where participants will learn memory techniques (called Mnemonics). Mnemonics have been around for centuries and are defined as “any device, process or approach that enhances memory”.

Each technique learned will be applied to general knowledge topics such as:
 Landmarks
 Oscar winning films and year won
 Countries and capital cities
 Books and authors
 Inventors, inventions and year invented
 20th century events and year
 Famous artists and artwork
 The calendar (never need to look up a date again)
[Topics will be selected from the above list. Additional topics will also be available.]

We will also learn how to improve recalling names and faces, and how to give a talk without notes.
Each week we will learn a technique, review information already learned and prepare for the next week. There will be some homework, namely reviewing information learned in class. The term will finish with a game show style quiz.

REQUIREMENTS: Please bring notepad and pencil.
No experience required – but an open-mind is important.

TUTOR: Helen began exploring Mnemonic Techniques in the early 1990s. She researched, developed and presented a course at Holmesglen, the CAE, Chisholm, community centres, private businesses, schools and even Barwon Prison. She also developed and presented a Quick Start (Foreign) Language & General Knowledge course. Helen is passionate about memory techniques and uses them on a daily basis. She is excited to share the techniques with others in a fun, lively and challenging way.
