The ukulele is an inexpensive and relatively easy to play instrument that is perfect to accompany communal singing groups. Students will need to have some experience in ukulele or guitar to be able to participate confidently in this intermediate group. The ability to interpret chord diagrams and confidence in basic strumming skills will be assumed in class members. Some singing is involved but, as we will be focussing on ukulele playing skills, you do not need to be a strong singer to join this group.
This is a multi-level group where more experienced members are encouraged to share their skills with the group. New students will be emailed a questionnaire regarding past musical experience.
REQUIREMENTS: Students must already have a ukulele, be able to tune the ukulele and understand chord charts/diagrams. For face-to-face classes, a folder to store music sheets, a pencil, an eraser and a music stand are also needed.
TUTOR: Minuk is an experienced music and language teacher who has been trained in the classical music tradition. She enjoys playing music in small ensembles and is keen to help others to gain musical knowledge and develop technical skills that facilitate access to the joys of community music-making.
Zoom class May 13 and June 10 due to City of Port Phillip Children’s Immunisation Program, and May 27 and June 3 due to COVID restrictions.
