For any students who are in yoga classes who wish to explore and understand some philosophy of yoga beyond just asana posture practices. The primary text is based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (complied from ancient text – estimated between 500 BC and 400 CE). Other references will also be used such as the Bhagavad Gita, theory of Kundalini, Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
Topics for discussion include:
Eight limbs of yoga
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Description of chakras, how they relate to our body and emotions
Explore the practices of pranayama, meditation and mantras
Gain some basic understanding on the yogi way of life
There will be some practical exercise as part of this course, eg meditation at the end of each class (5 minutes), introduction to the use of mantras for meditation, affirmation practices.
NOTE: The intention of the course is to explore the fundamentals of yoga – there is no intention to convert anyone to any beliefs or faith. There is no association with any religious practices with this course.
REQUIREMENTS: An enquiring and open mind. The course complements the two Kundalini Yoga classes Peter is running in Term 1. A better understanding of yoga philosophy will help to enhance your yoga class practices.
A willingness to explore beyond the physicality of present-day popular yoga practices.
TUTOR: Peter has been a regular yoga practitioner in different styles of yoga for a number of years, Kundalini yoga for the last 4 years. He completed his Level 1 Yoga Teachers Training Course (YTTC) in Rishekesh, India (often referred to as the home of yoga).
As a tutor Peter has been teaching two classes per week during Term 2, 3 and 4 in 2020. He has also been teaching two other weekly classes outside of U3APP.
