Other information

The Course looks at four (possibly five) Melbourne gardens, their history
and design. If guides are used there may be a small cost (under $10), which
you will be notified about prior to the day. We will analyse design features
and planting. (Hopefully notes will be provided.)

PROBABLE GARDENS
1. Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens (two
sessions): probably Volcano, Arid Garden and/or Children’s
Garden
2. University of Melbourne: Systems Garden, Professors Walk and
underground car park area
3. Burnley Horticultural College: roof-top garden and parks
surrounds

Depending on circumstances there may be a change in gardens visited. Students will be kept informed of any alterations & details of meeting places.

REQUIREMENTS: Clothes and shoes suitable for outdoors, hats, sunscreen,
umbrellas, notebooks and pens, cameras if desired.

NOTE: Students will be required to make their own way to the gardens,
possibly as a group. (All gardens are accessible by public transport and
detailed directions will be given).
This course involves walking around gardens to view and discuss them. It is
suggested that students bring a snack on each day. Coffee/ tea can be
purchased at own cost.

TUTOR: Jennifer is a graduate in Horticulture and Landscape Design. In her
early years she worked as a gardener at Fitzroy Gardens, then with a
number of private architecture/landscape design firms. She was Chief
Landscape Designer for the Ministry of Housing and at the USA Embassy in
Canberra. Later in her career, she lectured in landscape design- and
gardening-orientated areas at several TAFE Colleges. She has travelled
extensively, dragging her husband to gardens all over the world! In her
retirement, she volunteers at the RBG Melbourne, specifically working in the
Children’s Garden.

Classes will be held on 3, 17 and 31 March and 2 May
