Lively discussion, analysis and investigation of issues of a global, national or local importance.
The topics of interest are determined by participants and very much determined by what is occurring at a particular time in the external environment. However, there can be a singular theme topic for each semester requiring participants to undertake some general investigation for discussion at a scheduled meeting.
Attempts will be made to source the occasional speaker to provide oversight on a particular issue (participants will be asked to assist in identifying contacts from their network of friends).
REQUIREMENTS: A passionate interest in discussing, analysing and expanding one’s understanding of current issues. For course participants there is a commitment to contribute to, and facilitate, the airing of all points of view.
TUTOR: Marcel has undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications. His background includes: responsibility for policy development (Department of Treasury and Finance); joint development projects (Department of Education and Minister for the Arts); involvement in urban planning issues and local government committees; preparation and presentation of discussion papers to cabinet sub-committees, etc.
Marcel has been a local resident for 30+ years. He has an interest in the machinery of government and is passionate about social justice, the environment, equity and economics.
