Improve your fitness! Learn to concentrate! Come and learn to dance and have fun too! If you can tap your fingers to a tune, then you can learn to dance. Come along, learn and have fun.

My plan is that we are going to take it in monthly parcels. Each month I will teach a different style of couple dancing. We’ll cover waltz, foxtrot, cha cha cha, rumba and rock and roll/jive, probably doing each style twice over the year. In each style, we’ll cover freestyle dancing and sequence dances. Freestyle is where you walk onto the floor with your partner and the music and have no idea what you’re going to do except to dance to the music. Sequence dancing is where the couple dances a set of organised movements and repeat until the music stops. Sequence dancing is also called New Vogue (ballroom) dancing in Australia. At the end of each class to add some extra variety, we’ll do a line dance.

In this course, social dancing as done in the real world is what it’s all about. We are not doing competition-style ballroom dancing.  Overall, the class is designed to teach stuff that’s useful socially as well as being enjoyable.

Dancing is mainly couples dancing together. While I respect that some couples may not want to change partners, and that’s fine, everyone else will change dancing partners through the class. Honestly, if you don’t, you don’t learn to dance as well.

If you can convince a dance partner to come with you, that’s fantastic otherwise we’ll just have to adjust to the gender ratio that the class ends up with and everyone will need to accept that.

REQUIREMENT: No prior dance experience is required but it’s always good if you’ve got it.  Students must be mobile and active.

If you come, you must wear shoes that have flat hard soles so that you can swivel your feet on the wooden floor. Rubber soled shoes, sandals etc are not acceptable and students who don’t have suitable shoes will be asked to watch only because I don’t want to be associated with twisted ankles etc. For ladies who wear heels, then for this stage, I recommend lower heels than real high heels if you have a choice available

TUTOR:  Over the last 20 years or so, Greg has done 5 to 6 thousand hours of dancing so, he says: “I can more or less step to the beat of most music”

On the last Friday of each month, the class will start just after 1.30 pm.

How to Enrol

On-line: after bookings have opened

On-line enrolments are preferred as this significantly reduces the amount of back-office work for our volunteers.

  • Login to the U3APP.org.au website.
  • Go to the Courses & Enrolling page.
  • Scroll down to find the course that you are interested in.
  • Does the course have spaces available?
    • Click on the course name to go to the booking page.
    • Click on “Book for this course or event”.
    • You will receive a confirmation email.  Please check your Junk/Spam folders as these automatically-generated emails often finish up there.
  • OR is the course shown as FULL?
    • Click on WAITLIST.

Paper Enrolment Form: before bookings open for First Semester

  • Obtain a paper Enrolment Form either from the Office or by printing an online copy available here.
  • Complete the paper Enrolment Form and submit it to the Office.

The start date for acceptance of paper Enrolment Forms for first semester is published on the U3APP website and in the e-Bulletin. Enrolment Forms received before this date are treated as though they had been received on the start date (ie there is no advantage to be gained by submitting early). On the start date and thereafter, paper Enrolment Forms are numbered in order of receipt.  Paper Enrolment forms are processed by U3APP volunteers on the same day as on-line bookings.

If your enrolment is successful, you will receive a confirmation email.  Please check your Junk/Spam folders as these automatically-generated emails often finish up there.

If your enrolment is unsuccessful,  you will receive an email telling you that you have been waitlisted.
