Julian Burnside AO, QC is an Australian barrister who was appointed Queens Counsel in 1989. In recent years Julian has become one of Australia’s leading advocates in relation to Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers and the protection of human rights. He is known for his staunch opposition to the mandatory detention of asylum seekers, and has provided legal counsel in a wide variety of high-profile cases. He is also an accomplished author. In 2009 Julian was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his work as a human rights advocate and for his services to the arts and the law.

We can expect an enlightening, first-hand insight into what has become one of the most controversial and polarising issues in Australia today and its political fallout.
