Jim Pribble will present four Morning Movies for those interested in unique movies.

Wed 22 Sept: Seven Samurai -1953/54 black and white film in Japanese with subtitles – Battle of good against evil in 16th century Japan. Basis for western production – The Magnificent Seven. 207 minutes. As this is a very long film, there will be an intermission.

Friday 24 Sept: Prospero’s Books -Peter Greenaway’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. -Intense production values, striking tableaux and interesting sound design. 121 minutes

Wed 29 Sept: Babette’s Feast  – Artistic, sensual and sacred passions unite in Babette’s Feast – a short story by Isak Dinesen (Out of Africa)- Oscar winning story offering an irresistible mixture of dry wit and robust humanity. 103 minutes

Fri 1 Oct: The Draughtsman’s Contract – Peter Greenaway-Story in 17th century Wiltshire-interaction between a contracted draughtsman and his employer’s wife. 104 minutes

The sessions will finish no later than 1pm.

Jim Pribble is a member of U3APP Committee of Management and the COVID-19 Working Group. He has presented courses on the evolution of the English language; Ancient Egypt; ancient cultures of Meso-America, North America and South America. He holds a BSc and MSc from Oregon State University, USA, in biological sciences.
