Other information

In this subject we discuss issues of contemporary interest in society, exploring ways in which the ideas of philosophers might illuminate our views on these topics. Questions and Internet readings are set for preparation. Students are encouraged to form their own opinions, and
engage in lively and friendly discussion moderated by the tutors.

The aim of the discussion is to clarify our thinking on some of these issues and to show the strengths and weaknesses of different views on the topic, rather than to adjudicate on who is right or reach a win-win situation.

TUTOR: Maurita Harney has taught and researched philosophy at a number of universities, and is Honorary Senior Fellow in philosophy at Melbourne University.
David Littlewood has an interest in politics and has taught aspects of political theory.

Course finishes 27 March.
