Award and Award Nomination Information
U3A Port Phillip (U3APP) recognises members for their volunteering contribution for the benefit of all members by giving the following awards
- President’s Award (PA)
- Honorary Life Member Award (HLMA)
- Meritorious Award (MA)
Award criteria
President’s Award (PA)
To be given this award, volunteer members must have made a major one-off contribution which has had a measurable, significant and beneficial impact on U3A PortPhillip. There is no minimum length of service.
Honorary Life Member Award (HLMA)
To be given this award members must have volunteered for U3A Port Phillip for 10 years. They must be held in high esteem by the general membership and their impact on U3A Port Phillip must be demonstrable and evidenced
The HLMA is defined under Rule 5(c) of the Association Rules as follows: - “A Member whose volunteer contribution to the Association, other than any financial contribution, has been both exceptional and sustained over not less than ten years, whether that contribution is by way of tutoring, administration or management, may, on the recommendation of the Committee, be awarded Honorary Life Membership by a majority resolution at a general meeting.” To access the full statement refer to the Association Rules.
Meritorious Award (MA)
To be given this award members must have volunteered for U3A Port Phillip for at least 8 years in a sustained and exceptional contribution by way of tutoring, administration and/or management
Nomination for Awards
The President’s award is at the discretion of the President, endorsed by the Committee of Management
The Honorary Life Membership Award and Meritorious Award are by nomination from any financial Member of U3APP. U3APP calls for nominations on an annual basis.
For 2026, you can submit your nomination(s) from 6 September to 30 September.

Assessment of Nominations
All valid nominations are assessed by the U3APP Awards Advisory Group that makes recommendations to the Committee of Management.
Invalid nominations
Nominations are invalid
- If the nominator is the nominee (ie. a self-nomination)
- If the nominee does not meet the stated award criteria
- If the nomination is received after the published closing date
Approval of Awards
All awards are approved at a General Meeting
- The President’s award on the recommendation of the President and endorsement of the Committee of Management
- The Honorary Life Members Award on recommendation of the Award Assessment Advisory Group and endorsement of the Committee of Management
- The Meritorious Award on recommendation of the Award Advisory Group and endorsement of the Committee of Management

In these regards the person being nominated should not be advised of the nomination or approached for information.
