Dr Janet Patford is conducting a study of older Australians who are currently in, or have previously had, a Living-Apart-Together (LAT) relationship.
For study purposes, older Australians are those aged 50+.
An LAT relationship is one where:
1. partners (same-sex or cross-sex) have an ongoing romantic or sexual relationship but are not married;
2. partners alternate between living together and living in separate residences;
3. partners regard themselves as a couple and are seen by others as such. People who participate as a couple will undertake a joint discussion and an individual interview, as well as writing briefly about two pivotal moments in their relationship. People who participate individually will undertake similar tasks.
