I joined U3APP shortly after moving to Australia from the UK in late 2018.
During my working life I’ve run government recruitment centres and undertaken business development. My last full time job was supporting University students and graduates to start their own ventures and I’ve also spent several years in project management. I’ve served on and chaired numerous boards and committees over the years, always with a focus on making things happen.
In the very dim and distant past I got a degree in Politics, but I know that like many of us, I’ve learned most from the University of Life!
From being a teenager I’ve been a serial volunteer, including running a Beaver (Joey) pack and mentoring with the Prince’s Trust, and I’m hoping to restart volunteering with the State Library in the near future. I’m also the U3APP rep on the Older Persons’ Advisory Committee for the City of Port Phillip.
My involvement with U3APP started as a Yoga Tutor in 2019, as I’ve taught Yoga alongside my day job since the early 1990s. This has morphed into teaching Relaxation classes on Zoom which I really enjoy.
I was delighted to be asked to join the Committee of Management of U3APP back in April 2020. Since becoming a committee member, I’ve taken on the roles of Data Privacy and Security Officer and Tutor Recruitment. I also sit on U3A Network’s Meditative Advisory Group and share good practice with other tutors from across the state.
U3A Port Phillip is a fantastic organisation to be part of. I’ve been so impressed with the range of courses on offer, the expertise and enthusiasm of the tutors and the positive, proactive attitude of all the volunteers. I’ve been very glad to be able to contribute in a small way to its success over the past 3 years and look forward to maintaining that involvement for many years to come.
